Will We Ever Get an Anti-Spam Law?

can_of_spam.gif

Will we ever get a national anti-spam law on the books? Not if the morons in congress keep doing what they do best!

I read this article at PCWorld.Com this morning after seeing it reported on another site.

This was originally going to be my normal rant on spam and how we need to solve the problem but after seeing the following quote in the article I became so upset this turned into a rant on government.

"'I don't know what spam is,' said Representative Maxine Waters (D-California) near the end of Tuesday's hearing by the House Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security Subcommittee. But Waters opposes limits on e-mail, fax, and telephone communications: 'I'm just not in the business of that kind of censorship,' she said."
This is exactly the kind of stuff that makes people get so upset at their government! You're on a committee that's discussing an anti-spam bill and you actually say "I don't know what spam is"? I mean come on now! Is it too much to ask to take a few moments of your time to learn what the discussion is even about?

Oh I'm sure she knows what the generic definition of spam is but being in government she doesn't like using generic terms. She just wants some convoluted 10 page description filled with complex lawyer speak and big words. Because we all know the more complex it gets the more room it leaves for loopholes, debate in interpretation, and protection for getting re-elected to office by not making anyone that might support you upset.

I know if I was from California I would be writing a letter to her right now calling her an embarrassment. For someone that's suppose to represent the high tech center of the world saying something like "I don't know what spam is" is downright the stupidest thing you could do!

Technology is a part of everyday life for Americans and rest of the world. Our governments need to get tech savvy and fast! The rate of change in technology is much too fast for the slow pace at which governments move. There are many high tech issues that need to be dealt with but getting the people in charge of dealing with the issues to understand and "get it" is impossible.

It's time for a wakeup call to The Congress, The Senate, and rest of the worlds governments. You need to get with the times. There are very important issues you need to deal with so quit wasting our time with your stupid politics and shell games! If you don't start fixing things we might just start electing those that will!
