The kiddie game debate
I have time and time again seen simple polls of video game console use turned into a fanboy debate over how one system "sucks, becuase it's for kiddies". I for one am getting sick of it!
The guys over at Penny Arcade do a pretty good job of countering the claims but that doesn't mean I can't rant too!
I've been playing games since the NES days. I spend my entire childhood being called a "Nintendo Nerd" and having to be a social outcast in a small town dominated by jocks. As a result I choose to be proud of what I was. I got into computers and liked playing games and I didn't care if it was nerdy or kiddie.
Fast forward 15 years... computers, video games, the internet, technology, etc are all used everyday by the average populouce. However the average joe user is still part of the jock domination. they are conflicted becuase they like to play games but at the same time they were raised to belive games are for nerds and kids.
This new group of gamers deny themselves entire markets of games becuase they are insecure about their own maturity. They're affraid that if they admit they like a game like pokemon they'll be mocked and made fun of just like I was as a kid.
So I ask all you gamers that refuse to play a game or buy a console becuase it's "kiddie" to wake up and realize you're just fooling yourself. Go out and try the game and give it an honest chance. You might just find out it's actually entertaining and well worth your time and money!
