End of the road for SMTP?

can_of_spam.gif

I found nother great article on the future of email at ZDNet.

It's the usual discussion on how to solve spam. There are many discussions right now about building new mail transport protocols that include strong verification of senders and the mail servers doing the sending. I would support any new system that includes a feature like this.

I personally have no qualms about dumping my current mail clients if a new system showed up today that could guarantee that the from address is legit and actually comes from the person it claims to be. It would make filtering that much easier for everyone and I doubt anyone would complain about that!

Spam is a runaway train and everyone knows it. It's time to quit trying to patch an obviouslly broken system system and just rebuild from the ground up. We list everything needed now and provide a system that can easily be modified and changed without breaking it and then go at implimenting it. Waiting for laws from governments or stadards bodies to discuss the problem for 5 years is useless. Act now and act fast. We might just catch the spammer by surprise and finally get the upperhand!
