No I'm Not Dead...Yet!
It has been over two years since i’ve posted on this thing. How do you like that?
Crazy how time flies sometimes. Lots of stuff has happened in my life. Too much to write all here and plenty I’d rather just forget.
The short story is basically this. Still at the same job and still with the same girlfriend.
I’m going to try to start blogging again. We’ll see how long I can keep it up.
Anyway. Peace out!

Grand Rapids, Ohio Apple Butter Festival
I went to the Apple Butter Fest with the girlfriend today. I’ve lived in the area for 10 years and never been there and she hasn’t gone in several years so we figured we might as well go together. Better than sitting around home all day.
It was pretty much just a bit art festival. There were lots of booths with people selling nick-nacks and other crafty things. Plus plenty of food booths.
I’d say the coolest part was the living history area. Basically, if you’ve never been to Grand Rapids, they have a restored section of the old Miami & Erie Canal along the Maumee River.
Along the river they setup a living history area. There were people dressed up in outfits from the revolution, civil war and ww2 eras set up in camps doing demonstrations and what not. It was pretty cool just roaming around seeing everything.
Anyhoo, we ended up just walking around for about three hours before we were just tired and went on home.
I’d say it was a good day. Church, breakfast at Bob Evans, Apple Butter Festival and then cartoons tonight. That would be Fox Sunday night cartoons of course! Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad.

9/11 - Four Years Later

Another year has passed and once again we are here on this powerful day. As usual there will be many discussions and programs on tv about the events. Perhaps this year more than the previous. Being four years out now the media is taking a chance and ready to begin pushing movies and tv shows about 9/11 that do reenactments and use actual recorded phone conversations of the events. So far I’ve heard that there are two movies and a mini-series in the works that will be released sometime next year… I just hope there aren’t more. All we need are a half dozen 9/11 movies being tossed out next summer just so that movie companies can fight over who does that best reenactment of the events. Shesh!
I’m not sure I’m actually going to watch any of the shows. Not to sound cruel or cold but I’m actually starting to get sick of it all. In the 4 years since the events happened there have been plenty of news, shows, books, etc on the topic and I’ve heard it all. Tonight on Fox is the season premieres of Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad. I’d much rather watch these entertaining and funny shows tonight and go to bed happy. I really hate the idea of spending the night watching all the 9/11 shows and going to bed feeling depressed and sad.
Anyhoo, Two years ago I made a post about where I was and what my first reactions to the events were. For those interested you can read it here:
9/11 reactions - A look back
I wish you all a safe and peaceful Sunday and hope your work week starts out good!

The first mass of Blessed John XXIII Catholic Parish
Blessed John XXIII Parish is a newly created Parish for the northwestern area of Wood County, Ohio. Earlier this year the Toledo Catholic Diocese spent a great deal of time reorganizing the area. Unfortunately, many parishes were closed or were setup to share a pastor between two parishes. For all the downsizing there was good news in the creation of several new parishes. Blessed John XXII (that’s 23 in roman numerals) Parish was one of those created to better serve the Perrysburg, Ohio area.
Technically, I don’t live within the parish’s area and my area already has a long standing parish. However, I’ve never really felt a part of that parish. It was the Church I went to but it wasn’t like it was “my” Church.
Blessed John XXIII being brand new and just starting really draws my interest and perhaps might be the parish for me to feel home at.
The thing I find funny is how I was drawn to this place. I’ve been rather lacking in the religion department for some time. It’s probably a mix of growing up and not finding religion to be important in a modern busy life and that I was rather burned out by the sexual abuse scandals. I still believed in God and was spiritual but just couldn’t stand the idea of organized religion for a while.
Maybe it’s me maturing or maybe it’s God working in mysterious ways but these last few weeks I’ve had a bit of a reawaking of sorts. I’ve been thinking a bit and actually talked with my Girlfriend about the need for religion. I hadn’t been keeping track of the going-ons of The Church but I just happen to read the newspaper Friday and in the religion section I saw the article about the first mass being held for the new Blessed John XXIII Parish.
So today was the first Mass they held. Mass will be held is the Perrysburg High School commons area at 9:30am every Sunday. This will be the scheduled location through May of 2006. They still need to find a location to build the new Church. Of course before you can do that you have to build the community and that’s what’s going on right now.
The opportunity to not only go to mass but get active in the community excites me. I’m hoping that perhaps I can offer my services in the technical areas. Perhaps help build a website for the parish, setup computers to manage office needs, etc. Since everything is new and need of people to help I know I can be of service in some small way.
