    Could the RIAA be wrong?

The BBC News has a rather good read about how the RIAA could be wrong about the impact of music swappers on the net.

For those too lazy to read here's the skinny on the article...
The BBC News is claming that the RIAA claims of file swapping ruining sales are wrong. Why you may ask?
    1) Organized crime has gotten into the counterfeit music biz!
    2) Much of the growth was from the boom of people replacing vinyl records with CDs
    3) In this new age of technology young buyers (who make up most of music sales) are spending less money of music and more on things like moves, clothes, games, etc.

I'd have to say I wouldn't have thought about those things. However they make sense and are very true. counterfeit software, music, movies, etc is huge in Asia and eastern Europe and it is a new age where kids don't just buy music.

Just think of it this way. little Tommy wants a game system. He has to save up around $200 just to buy the console, extra controllers, memory cards, etc! Then he has to plan on spending another $40-$50 per game he buys. So lets say Tommy buys the console and two games. He's just spend $300 that in the past would have gone to buying CDs! At a rough cost of $20 per cd that $300 would have covered Tommy buying 1 cd every month for a whole year. Now figure there are millions of kids like Tommy. You can easily see how that adds up!

Hey RIAA you aren't loosing billions to file swapping. You're loosing billions because kids aren't buying your crap anymore! Least that's what I think.

    Possible Farscape Mini-Series?

    farscape_logo.gif

IGN's FilmForce is reporting of rumors that The Jim Henson Company is prepping for a 4 hour Farscape mini-series.

For the uninformed, Farscape was the critically acclaimed show on SciFi that was cancelled without warning. They has made big news about picking up Farscape for another 2 seasons (which would be the last as season 5 was the planned end of the show). However half way through the 4th season in a sci-fi chat room the announcement was leaked that sci-fi opted out of the season 5 and would cancel the show.

Well the show ended the season with the usual cliffhanger to get you excited about the next. However it was not to be.

Now these reports are in no way verified by anyone from Henson or SciFi so take it with a grain of salt. However, I do hope it turns out to be true. It's well known that Henson had the entire season 5 planned out so it's very possible that a rewrite for a short mini-series to clean up the loose end has been in the works since the cancellation announcement. It could be that a script has just been finalized and possibly passed onto SciFi for discussion.

For now it's just a rumor...

    Free For All

    free_for_all.jpg

Well it seems I'm now a Showtime junkie. I keep finding good stuff to watch on the channel. Sometimes I wish other networks would take chances like Showtime does. Unlike a certain unnamed network that goes and cancels their only hit show to replace it with junk reality shows and a tv version of a crappy movie!

Anyways, after watching a Dead Like Me marathon last night I saw this cartoon called Free For All. I guess it's a comic strip by Brett Merhar but I've never seen it. All the same it was a bit odd but rather funny.

Since it was the first episode things were a bit confusing as they try to introduce all the characters. It's about community college student Johnny and his rich friend Clay. There's the usual cast of sidekicks including a drug addicted ferret, the required hot chick next door for Johnny to drool over, and the disfunctional family that Johnny wishes didn't exist.

Anyhoo, it's on friday nights so check it out after Dead Like Me. I guess it's not a real series becuase they're just showing 7 episodes but it'll give you something to watch for rest of the summer!

    Dead Like Me

    dead_like_me.gif

It appears Showtime has once again produced another hit show. Called Dead Like Me, it's all about the afterlife as seen through the eyes of a young girl named Georgia Lass, played by Ellen Muth, that's just died.

Unfortunately death isn't all it's cracked up to be...

Instead of proceding to her final destination, which by the way the show never gets into, Georgia finds out she's not ready to move on and has to be a grim reaper. This is where the story gets interesting!

Showtime's "Out Of Order" a great show!

So I was up late sunday night or technically monday morning I guess. I was up watching Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. I admit it, I'm an adult and I watch cartoons!

I was waiting for Cowboy Bebop to come on. It's a great anime (japanesee animation) series, trust me! Anyways, I was flipping through the movie channels around 1am and found a show called Out Of Order on Showtime...

    Matrix: Reloaded

    What can I say...

Excellent movie! I saw it friday and was blown away. I think neo put it best when he said WHOA! I don't care what others are saying, the long winded speeches were excellent, the action was obviouslly killer, zion was cool, and the way it endded was perfect.

*spoilers alert* - If you haven't seen the movie yet then don't read on unless you don't mind finding out what happens!
