Dead Like Me

It appears Showtime has once again produced another hit show. Called Dead Like Me, it's all about the afterlife as seen through the eyes of a young girl named Georgia Lass, played by Ellen Muth, that's just died.

Unfortunately death isn't all it's cracked up to be...

Instead of proceding to her final destination, which by the way the show never gets into, Georgia finds out she's not ready to move on and has to be a grim reaper. This is where the story gets interesting! I know all you "Touched by an Angel" fans, are there any?, are saying "ripoff!" right now. However, don't get turned off by the premise of the show being just a ripoff. It's much more and that's what makes it great. Where as Touched was all about trying to make people at peace with their family/friends/self/etc before death, Dead Like Me doesn't care about that. The story is centered about Georgia and how she deals with her new afterlife.

I really think the show as some promise. Although it does deal with death and what happens after death it really is about life. Showtime calls her death a wakeup call and it really is. It's all about realizeing that even at your lowest points life isn't all that bad!

The cast is a pretty descent set with the likes of Mandy Patinkin (Chicago Hope, Lulu on the Bridge, The Princess Bride), Rebecca Gayheart (Beverly Hills 90210, Earth 2, Scream 2) and Cynthia Stevenson (Air Bud, Forget Paris, From the Earth to the Moon). So there's plenty of good talent in the bunch. However, on a sidenote, I've read that Rebecca Gayheart will only be around for a few more episodes.

Anyhoo, so there you have it. It's a darkly funny show that you can't help but find interesting. It's on showtime network at 10PM eastern/pacific every friday night.

NOTE: You can catch the pilot again on June 29th at 10pm and July 1st at 11pm if you haven't seen it yet.
